Last night, Walter and I had our “Christmas dinner” at Blue Dahlia. If you have never been there, you should absolutely go. It’s a European-style bistro that uses the freshest ingredients from local farmers. It’s a small menu, but everything is delicious.
So we skipped an appetizer (but not without much pleading from me – “Come on, it’s just hummus! And taboule! And olives!” Walter: “And BREAD.” “Oh yeah….”) and both got amazing meals. He got the seared sashimi tuna steak, and I got the Coq Au Vin Blanc. Both were incredibly good choices, and moderately healthy (his was more healthy than mine). We also got a bottle of Malbec…
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: the way that I treat myself. I love red wine, specifically Malbec. It’s delicious and amazing and I just love it. I would take a glass of Malbec over cake any day.
Speaking of cake, Blue Dahlia has this flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce on it that is un.be.liev.a.ble. So we got it. Because it’s just so good. And it was at that point that we found out there is first time for everything.
We left some cake on the plate.
I know, it may not look like much, but I honestly do not remember the last time I left dessert on the table at a restaurant. I really think this is the first time ever. And it was empowering. I was so happy with the cake that I had eaten, and we didn’t have to finish it. Not that it was easy – I may have smashed my napkin into it after staring at it for about a minute. BUT WE DID IT. And it was awesome.
I know this post isn’t exactly the most weight-loss friendly, but this was my treat this week. And I just couldn’t believe that we left cake on the plate. Wow.
