Up 1.0 Pound

Let me just say this – no matter if you are expecting it, it’s less than you thought, or you’ve been down the weeks before, a gain still sucks.  You get on that scale, and if you’re like me, you know your weight from the previous week down to the decimal and you’re just hoping that your weight this week is less than that.  And when it’s not, it just plain sucks.

All of that aside, this week was not terrible.  It was by no means great, but it wasn’t horrendous.  I know why I gained – using all my weekly points, eating not so great things at parties, that trip to the Alamo Drafthouse where we had their pizza (TOTALLY WORTH IT), amongst other things.  But I went to the gym 4 times, made good choices when I was very seriously tempted, and didn’t eat as much at the parties as I used to.

The other thing that was a HUGE victory – this morning, before WW, I went to the gym.  I belong to 24 Hour Fitness, and there is this class that I love more than anything – “Cardio Dance Party”.  This particular teacher (his name is Abel, if you’re curious) is AWESOME. He is upbeat without being annoying, motivational, reminds you to breathe and keep your abs tight, and (my favorite) does everything perfectly in time with the music.  It’s magical. And it is the hardest work out I have ever experienced in my life.  Seriously.  I felt sorry for my WW cohorts this morning, because I came in red-faced and drenched with sweat. Deal with it, friends – I was too busy being a badass to worry about my face and my sweat.

And that’s not even the victory part.  I went to this class two weeks ago, and I felt like I was going to die.  (Still not the victory part.)  I had to keep stopping because my heart rate was so high and my shins/calves/quads/body parts hurt.  This week, I could feel a noticeable difference!  Yes, it was still incredibly difficult.  Yes, I still had to adjust the work out every once in awhile so I didn’t pass out.  But I absolutely felt so much better.  I could almost keep up with the rest of the class, and I didn’t feel like such a sissy.  It was FANTASTIC.

So those are my I-gained-weight-this-week thoughts.  There are so many things to think about when you see these numbers on the scale.  Your body changes from day to day, you retain water differently all the time, food and/or exercise from weeks before can show up later on the scale, and so many other things.  My total weight loss is still 10.4 pounds, which is great for 3 weeks.  I know all this.

But a gain still sucks.  :)

  1. Even people on the Biggest Loser Ranch will sometimes gain a pound. You take small losses in exchange for those big gains! Proud of you!
Have you tried a spin class? That will make a believer out of you!
