10 for 10

I’ve lost 10 pounds!  OK, 11.4 to be exact.  But who’s counting??  (Oh wait, I AM.)

My dear friend Sarah suggested that I do a Top Ten list for every 10 pounds I lose.  (She’s so smart.  This is why I keep her around.)  So here it is!

  1. Ella Fitzgerald — “Ella Wishes You A Swingin’ Christmas”  I love Ella, and I love Christmas.  That’s all you need to know.
  2. Sufjan Stevens — “Songs for Christmas”  This is a new addition to the collection, and I love it.  Beautifully laid back and folky.
  3. Chicago — “Chicago’s First Christmas”  Chicago really just went above and beyond for this one.  It’s just….hilarious and wonderful.
  4. Duke Ellington — “The Nutcracker Suite”  Not an album, per se, but you can find it on his “Three Suites” album.  It grooves.
  5. 98 Degrees — “This Christmas”  Shut up.  You don’t have to like this.  I do.
  6. Mannheim Steamroller — Anything Christmas related.  Yep.
  7. Frank Sinatra — “The Christmas Collection”  Old Blue Eyes does everything so beautifully well.  Christmas tunes are no exception.
  8. Vince Guaraldi Trio — “A Charlie Brown Christmas”  Duh.
  9. Bernstein with NY Phil & Mormon Tabernacle Choir — “The Joy of Christmas”  Traditional and incredibly grand, as only the NY Phil and Mormon Tabernacle Choir can do.
  10. Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson — “Winter Song”  I know this isn’t an album, but this is one of my favorite songs EVER.  Look up the video.  It is absolutely magical.

Get ready for some fancy pants photos.  Nathan, of the ever brilliant and totally gorgeous Nathan Russell Photography, and his incredibly wonderful and talented wife Amy are my dear friends.  They taught me pretty much everything I know about photography, and I would be lost without them.  (On a related note, they will be teaching a class in the spring for beginning photographers.  Let me know if you want to be a part of it!)

So, Nathan has agreed to take some photos of me, every time I lose 10 pounds.  This first 11.4 pounds came off rather quickly (as those first few pounds frequently do), so we shot last night.  As you can see, I’m not a model.  But they did pull out the coolest light ever for this shoot. (It’s called an Octabank, for pete’s sake.  This is hardcore stuff, here.)

I’m a dork.  Also, I’m not sure you can really tell a difference, but I can feel it!  Also also, I got new glasses from Warby Parker.  Yay!

Thanks for reading!  On to the next 10 pounds!

  1. Yay! I’m so proud of you, Liz!!! And the photos are a great idea – it’s usually a lot easier to see the changes that way, since you’re used to seeing your own body every day & don’t notice it gradually changing. Can’t wait to see where this all takes you! =)

  2. 98 Degrees! 98 Degrees! 98 Degrees! Anthony makes fun of me because I always have to include their Christmas album in my line-up, but it’s seriously been one of my favorites ever since I got it…in 8th grade…but that’s beside the point. It’s just so great! :) Love you!! I’m so proud of you and love reading your blog. You are so entertaining!

  3. Liz,
Wow I cant tell you how inspiring you are! I’m doing weight watchers too, and right now I’m in a total slump, I haven’t been tracking my point (only in my head….that doesnt count) and seeing what your doing….gosh its so inspiring. Your so brave. I just finished reading about your catering party and how you told everyone what you ate and how many points it all was….I mean wow thats inspiring. Keep it up! and if you have any words of encouragement for me I’d could really use it!!

    • Abbie! Miss you, girl – and thanks for reading!! I know it’s hard – I’ve started Weight Watchers so many times, stopped tracking/thinking about good health guidelines, and then given up entirely. All I can say is that this time, I’m ready. I’m at a place in my life where I know that I can spend the time planning my meals and going to the gym. Every day is not perfect, but I am tracking EVERY SINGLE THING I put into my mouth. It’s hard, but I’m worth it. Love you, my dear – if you every need anyone to kick you in the butt, let me know! :)

  4. Liz Love I know you’re probably tired of hearing this as often as you do, but you are AWESOME. Actions speak louder than words an what you are doing is more piercing than orchestral piccolo excerpts in a practice room. Keep going at it, my hero! :)
